Outline Syllabus:
Reverse engineering is a process that is used to create 3D CAD models directly from scanned physical parts. Techniques include CT, MRI, white light and laser digitisation. Data output from these techniques requires data processing such as point cloud and polygon mesh handling and refinement.Rapid prototyping, described as the physical modelling of a design using a special class of machine technology` uses virtual models created from reverse engineered parts to construct components using various materials such as liquid, powder and solid. Advantage, limitations and benefits of reverse engineering and rapid prototyping such as economic constraints and methodology can affect their application.
